New Spring Colours

keskiviikko 2. maaliskuuta 2016

What do you think about these babies?

We are adding these new pastel shades to our webshop soon. They can already be found from our Etsy shop.

These yarns are called Fat Paints. The wool has been "painted" before spinning so all skeins and dye lots are unique. We are going to sample knit a shawl using this soon and will add that pattern here also.

Spring is coming. And more colourful than ever!

Fall thick knits

torstai 1. lokakuuta 2015

Our fall line knits are finally on our webpage. We are adding there soon knitting kits - all our knits will also be available as knitting kits. What is your favourite?

Thinny Long scarf - extremely thick and long

Or maybe Thinny Tassel?

This one is a favourite already. Sweater itself is knitted with thinner Martta the Merino and the collar is knitted with superbulky Fat&Sassy Merino.

This one is Thinny Fringe. This scarf has fringes on the long sides which make it look more like a shawl or cape rather than regular scarf

Which ever you choose, you are quaranteed to stay warm.

Knitted roving blanket - extreme knitting with 45mm needles

tiistai 30. kesäkuuta 2015

Yesterdays project: knitted blanket of wool roving.

I have knitted a lot of blankets and throws but not one of wool roving lately. There are quite many yarn sellers in Etsy who sell plain wool roving as yarn. The difference between wool roving and yarn is that wool roving is not spinned nor felted so it is just raw wool. It is very delicate and very sensitive. I would not recommend it for finished knits as it pills very easily. But as I had my new 45mm needles waiting for me I decided to test them with wool roving as the thickness is just perfect.

First I just casted on 15 stitches. And then just knit all odd rows and purl the other ones. Knitting is fast, one knits about 1 kilo an hour.

It took about 3,5 hours to finish this blanket. Blanket size is 100cm x 150cm. I used 3 kilos of dusty rose coloured wool roving (Fat Wool Merino) (https://www.etsy.com/listing/222887455/fat-wool-merino-100g-in-19-colours-giant)

This blanket look nice and fluffy but I will felt it a little bit to avoid pilling and shedding.

Fat Chain

maanantai 8. kesäkuuta 2015

I love fat wool as you know. Most fat knits are thick and hot - not to be used during summer time. At least in Finland the summers are often cold especially in early summer. You need sweaters, jackets and cardigans. I decided to make this item for cold summer evenings and days. You can wear it as a statement piece or accessory when it is loosely wrapped around your neck or you can wear it more like a cowl or shawl when it is really getting chilly.

This piece is simple. My daughter (10 yrs) decided to make one too. You need only 200 grams of Fat&Sassy and no needles. You can crochet it with your fingers and hands. Little bit like arm knitting, but this is finger crocheting.

You just chain crochet the yarn and tie the ends together. 10 minutes and ready!

Knitted summer clutch

maanantai 1. kesäkuuta 2015

I have had a major knitting problem for several days now. I have had 35mm needles and natural grey merino and too many ideas. No results. Just knitting, starting over again and no result.

I decided to change material. I have had this t-shirt yarn on top of my storage shelf for a year now and now it was time. I used 12 mm needles and double t-shirt yarn.

Quite rarely I decide what to knit in advance. I just start knitting and see what it will turn out to be. Now I just purled 18 stitches and started knitting.

Hmmm....what it could be. The colour and material would be perfect for a pillow on a bed. It would make a lovely combination with linen sheets.

It would look nice on a sofa too!

I think this coral t-shirt yarn would spice this up.

I take 8mm crochet hook and crochet the short sides together and the long sides separately.

Here is demonstrated how to knit a cord. First you just crochet two chains and then you keep the stitch on your hook and pull the hook through the other chain so that you have two stitches on your hook. Then you slip the latter off the hook, pull the yarn through the first stitch, then you "knit" the other stitch with the hook and start over. Drop the leftmost stitch, pull the yarn through the first stitch and then the second stitch. And over again.

The cord I made was about 20cm long.

I also made a tassel and attached it to the corner as well as the knitted cord. Summer clutch is ready to go!

TJOCKT & Fashion student Kim Giryung

perjantai 29. toukokuuta 2015

TJOCKT sponsored fashion student Kim Giryung with fat yarns. Kim chose light pastel colours for his graduate knit collection. All yarns used in these knits are Fat&Sassy Merinos. My personal favourite is this light pink sweater with massive fringes. Colours used here are powder and milk. Both colours are custom shades but we will have them both as stock colours after summer holidays.

In this super chunky jacket is used Fat&Sassy Merino yarn in colours sunrise and milk. We will have sunrise as stock colour as of next fall.

The yarn used here is Fat&Sassy Merino in colour milk which is whitest white. In this garment I like the  nice combination of different materials and textures. Especially the finishing and how the two materials are combined looks fabulous!
